Harry Michael Ryder Golf Tournament

This year the HMR CUP resumed (after missing the 2020 season due to Covid) on the East Coast. Our three day charity tournament was held at Baltusrol Golf Club, Brooklawn Country Club and Winged Foot in September.

We are proud to announce that this year's beneficiary is the Hall Neighborhood House located in Bridgeport, CT. Hall Neighborhood House was awarded over $40,000 from the HMR Cup participants and we encourage everyone to visit Hall and see the meaningful impact it has on infants to seniors in Bridgeport. In Golf, Wine, and Good.

The Harry Michael Ryder Cup was founded by guys who share several attributes: we're keen golfers, savor good wine and appreciate that we are have been blessed by good fortune and would like to contribute to the less privileged through a golf tournament. Thus, our motto, "Golf, Wine and Good."

The winnings and donations from The HMR Cup go to different charities each year, among these:  The McGivney Center, www.mcgivney.org Focus for a Future, www.focusforafuture.org  Operation Hope, www.operationhopect.org  and the Cardinal Shehan Center and Hall Neighborhood House in Bridgeport.

The tournament is in honor of Harry Michael Ryder, a young man who was born with every imaginable disadvantage and endured the indescribable and persistent pain of a burn victim until he died in 1999.

Harry was born on January 1, 1969 into a family in New York City. His family existed in dire circumstances and when Harry was three years old he was making pancakes unsupervised. A horrible fire ensued, burning 90% his body and face. Harry spent the next three years in intensive care in a public hospital suffering through innumerable skin grafts.

Left as a ward of the state, Harry entered foster homes, one of which was Tom Reilly's, a founder of The HMR Cup. Tom became Harry's godfather and Harry became part of Tom's family until Tom’s family moved overseas and Harry joined other foster homes. Despite the efforts of many good people, Harry drifted through various schools and foster homes and then supported himself through his aptitude with computers. However, for most of his adult life he lived on the margins of society and suffered severe pain caused by his burns until he died, alone, in Murfeesboro, TN on May 1, 1999.
Thus, our tournament is named after Harry because he represents every boy and girl who has been given the short end of the stick in life and deserves so much more.

All donations go directly to the designated charity and all costs of running the charity are borne by the participants. Contact us at tomreilly158@gmail.com
